The main problem of the ANC-controlled Mogale City Local Municipality (Krugersdorp, Magaliesburg, Muldersdrift) is not only the daily infrastructure failures, but also the Municipality’s laxity or failure to provide feedback to councillors and residents.
When water pipes burst, substations go offline and households are left without essential services for hours or days, it is impossible to do proper planning or find solutions without timely communication from the Municipality.
On 16 May, the Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) reported a major water outage in Krugersdorp North six times to the Mayoral Committee Member for Water, Peter Modise. No feedback was received.
Instead, he made a snide remark on a WhatsApp group for municipal services, stating that the party should not “police” him and that he would provide feedback to the relevant ward councillor.
According to information shared on the same group, this never happened. So, residents were left without an explanation or a timeline.
Another example is Third Street in Krugersdorp North, where residents have not had water for eight days. A complaint was lodged, but no feedback has been received.
The pattern of making excuses — usually relating to staff shortages — has become a tired refrain that only deepens frustration and destroys trust.
Residents pay high rates for services, but in return, they receive no feedback and crumbling infrastructure that is neither properly maintained nor replaced.
Constant service interruptions, a lack of accountability and this callous disregard for complaints should not be tolerated.
It is time for residents to make their voices heard and oust the ANC government from power to make way for a new administration that will prioritise their interests.
