Impact of Covid-19 on healthcare system necessitates greater vigilance on roads this festive season

(Debate in Parliament on road safety during the festive season)

The impact that Covid-19 has had on the country's healthcare system could mean that individuals who are in road accidents during the coming festive season and who urgently need medical care may not get the help they need as readily as before.

Thus, the FF Plus is calling on all road users to be even more vigilant and careful when they get behind the wheel.

South Africa's roads are some of the most dangerous in the world – not just because of the poor condition of our roads, which leaves much to be desired, but mainly due to the human factor that is responsible for 90% of all accidents.

The main contributing factors worth mentioning here include recklessness, negligence, intolerance and the biggest evil of all, alcohol.

Alcohol has not only become synonymous with the festive season, but also with the massacre on our country's roads.

With the festive season upon us, the FF Plus wants to express a special word of thanks to everyone who unselfishly gives their time to ensure the safety of road users.

This includes all doctors, nurses, ambulance staff, members of the police service and traffic officers who all make an invaluable contribution to saving lives and ensuring road safety.

The FF Plus hopes that everyone will drive safely and enjoy the season of joy and peace. Do not let this special time end in tragedy for you and your family because of a needless accident.
