IEC must explain great confusion with voters rolls

The FF Plus will urgently be holding talks with the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) to get clarity about the great confusion over voters rolls which was experienced this past registration weekend, Dr. Pieter Mulder, the FF Plus leader, said.

According to Dr. Mulder, the FF Plus received various enquiries in this regard, and it appears that the problem is threefold in nature: person’s names have disappeared from the voters roll, addresses were incorrect or had disappeared from the voters roll.

Dr. Mulder said the problems are extremely worrying as South Africa is less than four months away from the election.

“The answers offered by a spokesperson of the IEC this morning on the radio station, RSG, regarding the confusion are unacceptable. It has to be established what exactly the problem is, what the extent of the problem is, and it has to be rectified as quickly as possible,” Dr. Mulder said.

Dr. Mulder also pointed out that the registration process only closes when the election date has been promulgated in the government gazette.

Any person can, therefore, still go to the IEC office in his/her municipal office to make enquiries about his/her status as a voter or to still register, Dr. Mulder said.

Voters can also establish what their status is by sending their identity number via sms to 34139. Sms’ cost R2. You can also access the FF Plus’ website at www.vfplusorg.co.za. Click on the link “Is ek geregistreer / Am I registered”. The FF Plus also offers a service number where people can obtain information. The number is 0861-700-700.
