Free State SOPA was essentially an ANC election rally sponsored by tax payers

In her State of the Province Address (SOPA), the Premier of the Free State, Ms Sisi Ntombela, said that Free State residents' quality of life has improved since the ANC entered into a 'social contract' with South Africans in 1994 ‘after which the heavens opened up and joy rained down on all South Africans’.

That is absolute nonsense. The ANC broke every promise it ever made to South Africans with regard to a better life for all. Under the premiership of Ace Magashule and now Sisi Ntombela, the ANC has run the Free State into the ground.

A quarter of a century under ANC governance has brought about nothing but deterioration. The quality of life of Free State residents certainly did not improve and it also will not improve with such a dishonest and ineffective government at the steer of things.

The Premier announced with great fanfare that numerous new schools will be built in the Free State, but the existing schools are dilapidated, and teachers do not have access to the resources and support they need to teach effectively.

The learners at some schools are still using pit toilets while the Premier is making promises about new schools. The ANC cannot prioritise. The party is merely making promises regarding new schools to score cheap political points and ultimately, nothing will come of it.

Once again, there were empty promises made of a rehabilitation centre in Botshabelo and an upgrade to the Phuthaditjaba Industrial Park. These promises did not realise in the previous financial years and will not realise now either.

Likewise, a fence and a gate amounting to R6 million was erected at the Phofung special economic zone and that was it; nothing more. Like President Cyril Ramaphosa during the SONA, the Premier promised the moon and the stars but offered no feasible solutions to the problems that the Free State is currently facing.

The Premier also promised that new hospitals will soon be opened to improve health care in the Free State, but hospitals like the Albert Nzula hospital in Trompsburg, which cost the Free State government millions, is still standing vacant. The ANC is simply unable to manage resources and assets properly.

The Free State SOPA was nothing but an ANC election rally during which empty promises were made in an attempt to convince the people, who are desperate and suffering as a result of the ruling party's blatant mismanagement and corruption, to vote for the ANC just one more time in the hope that things will improve in the future.

In May this year, voters must fight back at the polls and punish the ANC for its blatant lies, failures and self-serving tendencies.
