The annual report of the NYDA which was tabled in Parliament yesterday indicated that R62 million was used for irregular expenditure during the 2012/13 financial year. The Auditor General’s (AG) report indicates that irregular expenditure amounted to R195 million for the past two years.
“It is unacceptable that this institution had racked up so much in irregular expenditure without any person being held accountable for it. According to the annual report, the suspended chief executive officer, Steven Ngubeni’s, salary had been increased by 20% from R2.032 million to R2.425 million. This salary is exorbitant for a chief executive officer of an institution which is completely ineffective and dysfunctional,” Wouter Wessels, the Freedom Front Plus’ national youth leader said.
The FF Plus Youth will be writing letters of serious concern to the Public Protector and the President to ask for an urgent investigation into all the irregularities in which the NYDA has been involved in the past three years. The FF Plus Youth also insists that this institution is crapped as it is only a waste of taxpayer’s money and the NYDA has not fulfilled its constitutional mandate since its establishment.
