The FF Plus sent an official letter to the municipal administrator of the Phokwane Local Municipality about water sources in Hartswater that are obviously not suitable for human consumption. As a result, a report was tabled in the relevant council which decided that action must be taken to improve the situation.
It was decided that a catchment dam and reservoirs will be cleaned over the course of the following few weeks. In addition, a schedule for future cleaning and maintenance operations will be drawn up.
Unfortunately, residents can still expect to get dirty water in the system for the next few days, but after that the water quality should improve.
The water purification system does not have the capacity needed to provide enough water to the community, but a budget for the replacement of the filtration sand and other vital maintenance work has already been approved.
The FF Plus considers this a positive development and certainly a step in the right direction. Residents are, however, still encouraged not to drink the water directly from the tap but to first boil it or to buy purified water.
