FF Plus Mpumalanga sent an official letter to the Minister of Water and Sanitation about Lekwa Municipality’s contempt of court

The FF Plus in Mpumalanga has sent an official letter to the Minister of Water and Sanitation, Lindiwe Sisulu, requesting that she must immediately intervene at the Lekwa Local Municipality (Morgenzon, Standerton), which is in contempt of the High Court's order that it issued in 2018 regarding the pollution of the Vaal River.

Sisulu's Department of Water and Sanitation has already taken the Lekwa Municipality to court before to stop it from seriously polluting the Vaal River due to its mismanagement and contempt of the court order.

The 2018 High Court order instructed the Municipality to immediately repair all its sewage plants to put an end to the constant pollution, which had been going on for years.

The FF Plus brought it to the Minister's attention that nothing has been done to comply with the court order and that sewage is still flowing into the Vaal River. The time has come for Minister Sisulu to take action and request the High Court to institute criminal proceedings against the Municipality.

While the ANC's national Department is dragging its feet and turning a blind eye to the problem, great damage is done to the environment. The government's laxity has quite possibly resulted in irreversible pollution.
