The FF Plus encourages Afrikaans parents and students to implement a pay strike at the University of the Free State (UFS) until teaching in Afrikaans has resumed. It is time that the Afrikaans community starts talking with its money and those institutions who slights Afrikaans starts feeling it in their pockets. The first campaign in this regard will be launched against the UFS,” Adv. Anton Alberts, the FF Plus’ parliamentary spokesperson on Higher Education says.
Adv. Alberts says the UFS management, in the person of its rector, Jonathan Jansen, has over the years repeatedly given the assurance to the FF Plus that Afrikaans as a medium of instruction at the UFS will remain and repeatedly accused the FF Plus that the party was busy with scare tactics about Afrikaans.
“It now however appears that the FF Plus’ warnings that Afrikaans will eventually disappear from the UFS has come true. One can only wonder how Jansen sleeps at night, after his stories to the contrary that he served up to the party and the Afrikaans community.
“The FF Plus requests all interested parties in this issue to sign a petition in this regard that the FF Plus will be handing to the UFS management as proof of support for a pay strike which will be implemented until Afrikaans is re-instituted as medium of instruction,” Adv. Alberts said.
