The FF Plus welcomes the decision by the National Energy Regulator (NERSA) to cancel the proposed regulations for so-called Small-scale Embedded Generation. The proposed regulations were not just characterised by thoughtless elements; the entire notion is thoughtless. Seeing as a NERSA spokesperson indicated that the withdrawal is only provisional, the FF Plus will keep a close eye on the matter.
The FF Plus is convinced that the future of competitive industries in South Africa will be built on a foundation of renewable energy. Therefore, the power grid must be open to consumers who not only want to buy electricity, but who also want to sell electricity. Safety measures must surely be implemented, but fictitious risks may not be used as an excuse to restrict participation. ESKOM must gradually change from being the electricity supplier to being the electricity distributor. That is true transformation.
Concerning thorough planning, the FF Plus would like to point out that all solar panels at import harbours and factory gates must be inspected. The data can be used for further planning.
The FF Plus envisions a future where every roof of every factory, house, barn, shopping centre and parking lot is covered in solar panels. It will be a future with cheaper energy and less pollution.
