(Debate in Western Cape Legislature: The commitment to a non-racial and united SA)
The FF Plus is committed to upholding the Constitution in its entirety, but that is no miracle cure for all our political problems.
The government's constant pleas for non-racialism and a united South Africa proves that after 28 years, the ANC has still not succeeded in winning the hearts of the people.
Sport quotas, Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) enriching only cadres, and Affirmative Action (AA), which excludes certain population groups from job opportunities, stir up anger and social unrest.
The FF Plus would like to remind the ANC of what its friend, Robert Mugabe, once said, "How do you convince the upcoming generation that education is the key to success when we are surrounded by poor university graduates and rich criminals?"
Is that not currently the case for the South African government as well?
According to the Freedom Charter, which was adopted by all population groups, the right of all peoples of Africa to independence and self-government shall be recognised, and shall be the basis of close cooperation.
Surely, it also recognises the right of white and coloured people to independence and self-government, and not just those of black people's.
The FF Plus concurs with former President Kwame Nkrumah of Ghana who said, "Freedom is not something that one people can bestow on another as a gift. They claim it as their own and no one can keep it from them."
So, let us support the call for a free and democratic Cape, and let us save what is left of a once prosperous South Africa.
