During yesterday's special council meeting of the Mogale City Local Municipality (Krugersdorp, Magaliesburg, Muldersdrift), the ANC and EFF attempted to oust the Mayor, Tyrone Gray.
The presence of the Gauteng Premier, Panyaza Lesufi, spurred on this conduct.
As usual, the two parties disregarded the Rules of Order on procedures that must be followed and demanded that a motion of no confidence in the Mayor must be placed on the agenda.
During the council meeting, the ANC and EFF did everything in their power to bend and interpret the rules in a disruptive manner.
The FF Plus submitted a High Court ruling as well as relevant legislation that proved the EFF and ANC's conduct was unconstitutional.
They then indicated that they would not support the adjustment budget, the matter that was to be addressed in the special council meeting, before their demands were met.
Their disruption inevitably resulted in the meeting being adjourned and the adjustment budget could not be adopted, as prescribed by law.
As a result, the Municipality will be unable to provide certain services as from 1 March.
Such conduct violates the Code of Conduct for Councillors, and the FF Plus demands that steps must be taken against the relevant councillors.
Their conduct is fuelled by greed and a hunger for power, and demonstrates a sheer disregard for the interests of Krugersdorp residents.
