It is with deep regret that the FF Plus takes note of the death of General Jannie Geldenhuys Sunday night and the party would like to express heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Gen. Geldenhuys.
"It can be said with confidence that a figurative library of military knowledge has burnt down with his passing. The expertise has died with him. Gen. Geldenhuys did, however, write books on war and this heritage will always be remembered,"says dr Pieter Groenewald, FF Plus leader.
"He was especially loved by his troops and he was known as one who did not hesitate to lead from the front even when his life was in danger. And that is where he got his nickname, the Troops' General.
"When he retired in 1990, it could be said with confidence that the much-loved General Geldenhuys (SSAS, SD, SOE and SM) was the head of one of the strongest and most feared armies in Africa with weapons and military skills that were comparable with the best in the world," Groenewald says.
