The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) insists that the Tshwane Metro’s Department of Economic Development and Spatial Planning immediately issue the necessary occupancy certificates for schools in the Metro.
This call follows the Gauteng Department of Education bringing the matter to the attention of the Freedom Front Plus.
Ratanang Primary School in Hammanskraal, which has already been completed, cannot be occupied by its 1 200 learners because the occupancy certificate has not been issued. A similar problem exists at Rietondale Secondary School, where 70 learners are directly affected.
This is unacceptable and points to a serious lack of cooperation between different spheres of government.
The Freedom Front Plus wants to emphasise that learners’ right to safe and suitable educational facilities may not be delayed due to bureaucratic red tape.
The party is concerned that this problem is not limited to these two schools, but may be indicative of a broader trend within the Metro.
The Freedom Front Plus will keep pressuring the Tshwane Metro to ensure that the relevant department fulfils its duties and that occupancy certificates are issued at once.
