Revitalisation of Gillooly’s Farm in Bedfordview welcomed

The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) supports the Ekurhuleni Metro’s initiative to lease the dilapidated Gillooly’s Farm in Bedfordview so it can be transformed into a botanical garden.

Such revitalisation efforts will certainly benefit the community in several ways, provided that the process is transparent and fair.

For decades, Gillooly’s Farm, a 44-hectare park, used to be one of residents’ favourite spots to visit and enjoy nature. It has fallen into disrepair over the years, though.

The Ekurhuleni Metro plans to lease the farm to a private company for up to 30 years with the aim of restoring it to its former glory. The plan is to create a botanical garden with new plants, hiking trails and recreational spaces. The lessee will be responsible for funding renovations, such as cleaning the dam, repairing facilities and improving security. The Metro will generate revenue from the lease and potential market-related activities.

The Freedom Front Plus will closely monitor the process to ensure it is transparent and for everyone’s benefit.
