During the Budget Vote Debate of the Department of Land Reform and Rural Development, a bias against all white people, particularly Afrikaners, became glaringly obvious.
To secure a future in Africa, Afrikaners will need to reconsider their options.
The Minister, Mr Mzwanele Nyontsho, began his speech by promising that the proposed Equitable Access to Land Bill will be passed this year.
In her reply, Ms Rachel Adams of the ANC, stated that they support the Bill because it does not rely on the market mechanism.
Representatives from the MK and EFF, Messrs Andile Mngxitama and Sam Matiase, repeatedly referred to white people as land thieves. They also added that the target of having 30% of all South African land in black ownership by 2030 is inadequate.
The MK further announced that it will introduce a private bill to push back the cut-off date for land claims to 1652.
The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) was the only party to challenge this narrative. The party pointed out that what happened to the Jews in 1930s Germany serves as a testament to how dangerous it is to label an entire ethnic group criminal based solely on their descent.
In the Freedom Front Plus’s view, such a group needs to protect itself. This can be done on an individual basis through defending property rights in courts, which could indefinitely frustrate land reform.
The other possibility is to officially recognise Afrikaners as a group, particularly with regard to land ownership.
The Freedom Front Plus believes that certain conflicts can only be resolved through self-determination: the Sahrawi issue in Morocco, the Palestinian issue in Israel and the Afrikaner issue in South Africa.
