The FF Plus has requested the EFF Speaker of the Ekurhuleni Metro Council, Ms Nthabiseng Tshivhanga, to urgently convene a council meeting to finalise important items that need to be submitted to the Auditor-General (AG).
The recess period starts on 14 December and the work needs to be completed before then.
If the items are not finalised by the appointed deadline, incomplete documents will be submitted to the AG.
One of the items relates to institutional oversight over the Metro’s structure. This item has been pending for a long time and is such that it may possibly negatively affect the EFF’s management positions in the council.
This specific item was on the council’s agenda for 30 November, but the Speaker adjourned the meeting after chaos broke out between the EFF and opposition parties.
She did undertake to convene a special council meeting within seven days to address the outstanding items.
But to date, councillors have not yet received notice of such a meeting.
The FF Plus will put pressure on the Speaker to schedule a meeting as soon as possible to comply with the AG’s directives.
If it does not happen, the FF Plus will lodge a formal complaint against the Speaker with the Metro Council’s Rules and Ethics Committee.
