The FF Plus will fulfil the role of watchdog in the North West provincial legislature because one of its members, De Wet Nel, was unanimously elected as the chairperson of the legislature's oversight committee.
The main functions of the committee include, among other things, oversight of the financial management, ensuring compliance with financial legislation and regulations as well as reviewing the provincial legislature's annual reports.
It is customary for members of the opposition to serve as chairpersons of oversight committees. The oversight committee does not form part of the executive authority and as a strong opposition party, the FF Plus will keep the ANC government on its toes.
The FF Plus made it clear to the ANC that transparency, corporative control, clean administration and the optimal use of government resources are its priorities. The party takes its role seriously and will perform it to the best of its abilities in the interest of all taxpayers.
