The FF Plus in the Western Cape elected Johannes Hartnick as new joint deputy leader for the province. Hartnick currently also serves as the executive deputy mayor of Hessequa.
Ms Erika Botha-Rossouw is the other deputy leader. Dr Corné Mulder, Chief Whip of the FF Plus, is the provincial leader of the party in the Western Cape.
Hartnick is a native of the Western Cape and he still lives in Riversdal, where he was born on 9 March 1957. He studied at the University of the Western Cape (1978 to 1998) and he served in the South African Navy for 20 years.
He has always been actively involved in the communities where he lived and worked, and he also excelled as a sports coach. In addition, he served on the councils of the various schools and churches where he was involved.
In 2016, Hartnick was appointed as the executive deputy mayor of the Hessequa region and he performs his tasks from Riversdal, where the FF Plus's regional offices are also situated.
Dr Mulder says that Mr Hartnick was the popular candidate for the position of deputy leader and that he is looking forward to working with him to expand the FF Plus in the Southern Cape in the runup to next year's general elections.
"Hartnick is currently doing an excellent job in serving the Hessequa community and he is a shining example of how a political party can optimally protect the interests of its voters as part of a coalition,"Mulder added.
