Unsolved cases of theft make farming impossible

For farmers in the Mara, Alldays, Mogwadi and Waterpoort regions in Limpopo farming is a nearly impossible undertaking due to the theft of power cables, copper pipes, solar panels and transformers.

Millions of rand in damage is caused making it impossible for farmers to keep up.

The cases of theft that are reported are not solved, moreover, the police stations in these towns lack the manpower and vehicles to investigate these cases.

There are 148 unsolved cases of theft between January 2022 and December 2022.

The FF Plus has now sent an official letter to Limpopo's provincial Police Commissioner, Lt Gen. Thembi Hadebe, requesting her to meet urgently with the station commanders of the relevant police stations to address the shortage of manpower and vehicles.

The party also requested the MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Ms Florence Radzilani, to arrange for the Provincial Legislature's Portfolio Committee on Safety to conduct an oversight visit at the police stations in question.

It is important for Members of the Legislature to determine the true situation for themselves. It is clear, though, that urgent intervention is needed at these police stations.

The FF Plus will not stand idly by and look on as food security is jeopardised by criminal activities that force farmers to their knees.
