Ore trucks recklessly speeding through Hazyview in the Mbombela Local Municipality (Nelspruit, White River, Barberton, Hazyview) are not only causing chaos in the town, but also endangering lives.
The FF Plus received several complaints about these trucks violating traffic regulations.
Among other things, the trucks simply do not stop at red traffic lights and stop streets.
The only solution is to intensify visible policing.
On 23 February 2022, the FF Plus sent questions for written reply to the Mayoral Committee Member for Community Safety, Jackson Mhlanga, to enquire about traffic officers' apparent inability to monitor traffic because there is a serious shortage of patrol vehicles in Hazyview.
Up to five law enforcers are expected to travel in a single vehicle. It means that they can only focus on monitoring one area to fine motorists for traffic violations.
The questions remain unanswered to this day.
The time has come to impose sanctions against Members of the Mayoral Committee who fail to reply to the questions addressed to them.
Mbombela residents deserve better.
