There can be no talk of respect in SA if one group is held in disregard

When human rights are up for discussion in South Africa and in Parliament, then the conversation has to start with the topic of mutual respect. The people of South Africa must learn to have mutual respect for each other’s differences, disagreements, languages and cultures. There can be no talk of human rights if one group tries to dominate another.

The FF Plus is genuinely committed to human rights and believes that human rights as well as equal rights must be promoted in South Africa.

Members of Parliament frequently quote former President Nelson Mandela. Therefore, I would also like to quote him and this is what he said on the day of his release in Cape Town:

“I wish to quote my own words during my trial in 1964. They are as true today as they were then. I have fought against white domination, and I have fought against black domination…”.

However, what we are currently experiencing in Parliament, particularly with regard to the issue of land, is an attempt at black domination.

I want to point out to the Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, adv Mike Masutha, that he clearly did not heed what President Cyril Ramaphosa said in Parliament yesterday.

The president agreed with me that if we want to address the issue of land in an honest way, then we need to recognise that the people that own the land deserve respect. They legally obtained the land and work hard to feed the nation.

Section 17 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of the United Nations (UN) stipulates that “everyone has the right to own property alone as well as in association with others” and “no one shall be arbitrarily deprived of his property”.

If people really want to be honest about human rights, then they must acknowledge all aspects thereof and not be selective about it, because that would be hypocritical.
