Tax relief will stimulate economic growth much more than higher taxes as it is a proven fact that economic growth only takes place when the state stops interfering in a free market, Adv. Anton Alberts, the Freedom Front Plus’ spokesperson on the economy says.
He said the whole issue of tax shouldin its entirety be seen against the country’s economic state and economic objectives. It is especially the economic middle class which should be receiving tax relief and not only workers in special economic zones.
The special economic zones bill has not been finalized yet and will in addition be quite some time before the effect of tax relief will be seen on this level,” Adv. Alberts said.
“The reality is that South Africa currently needs immediate tax relief. There is tremendous financial pressure on the middle class while new taxes pop up every where.
“At present a small minority of taxpayers is keeping the country going and it increasingly appears as if the ANC government does not have any respect for them. In stead of nurturing them, more taxes are being levied against them which lead to impoverishment.
“Examples if this are the e-toll system which will be implemented in Gauteng and the many which will follow on the Gauteng tolls throughout the country. Many pensioners have to sell their properties because they can no longer afford property taxes.
“It is through racial ideological enslavement which informs a perverse policy such as affirmative action that allows for cadre deployment and ignores merit, as well as black economic empowerment, for which no proof exists that is actually works, that the economy is being held back and eventually harms everybody.
“This proposed bill is a step in the right direction but there are too many steps in the process in the wrong direction which eliminates all the positive consequences which could flow from this bill,” Adv. Alberts says.
