Racist comments from individuals such as Andre Slade, guesthouse owner from Sodwana, are feeding into the hands of people who want to polarise South Africa racially and it must be strongly condemned, Dr, Pieter Mulder, Leader of the FF Plus says.
Dr. Mulder says it is incomprehensible that there are still people today in South Africa like Slade. His racist remarks are far removed from reality and the Bible – although he apparently thinks so.
“Unfortunately there aren’t any proof anywhere in the world that legislation against racism, like that which government is considering to introduce, will change the views or prejudices of individuals such as Slade.
“A society can still survive individuals such as Slade, but such a society is in trouble if leaders start making such comments as part of their political views or for the purposes of election propaganda.
“Leaders set the example to a large extent determine the climate in which people differ from each other and talks of each other. The generally good relationships during former president Nelson Mandela’s time as president confirms this.
“For various reasons, relationships in South Africa has deteriorated in South Africa in the past couple of years which is regrettable,” Dr. Mulder says.
