New FF Plus MPL excited about serving her community

Earlier today, Tammy Wessels was inaugurated as the new FF Plus Member of the Provincial Legislature (MPL) in the Free State. She was inaugurated to replace the former Free State MPL, Wouter Wessels, who succeeded Dr Pieter Mulder as Member of Parliament.

Wessels is excited about filling her new position by serving the community, fulfilling the role of watchdog and calling the ANC government to account. She believes that the Free State has a lot of potential and wonderful people, but that the province is paralysed by mismanagement, corruption and poor service delivery.

Wessels (31) has been actively involved with the FF Plus and party politics since her student years.

Wessels was born and raised in Johannesburg. After matriculating, she studied at the University of the Free State (UFS), where she was actively involved in student leadership. Amongst other things, she was a member of the UFS Student Council and the Speaker of the student parliament. At present, she is also the National Youth Leader of the FF Plus.

Formerly, Wessels worked as the party’s liaison at the Mangaung Metro Municipality where she handled residents’ municipal problems and complaints.

As Youth Leader, she recently represented the party at the UN’s Forum on Minority Issues in Geneva, Switzerland, where she presented on the marginalisation of Afrikaans as a medium of instruction.

She is passionate about empowering youths, education and language rights.

Wessels is a member of the FF Plus’s federal council, the federal committee and the Free State executive committee.
