Multiparty government in Johannesburg creating jobs despite country’s struggling economy

While South Africa’s unemployment rate increased to 37.2%, Johannesburg created 109 000 new jobs during the first two quarters of this year. According to Stats SA, the unemployment rate in Johannesburg decreased from 32.3% to 30.8 %.

The success in bringing down Johannesburg’s unemployment rate is attributed to the good managing skills of the multiparty government that the FF Plus is part of.

The city attracted R8,7 billion worth of new investments during the 2017/18 financial year, which is R3 billion more than what was projected.

There is a record number of new investments that are linked to new projects so as to stimulate job creation.

This offers incontestable proof of investors and the private sector’s confidence in the city. The appointment of 1500 new metro police members in the city also had a positive effect on economic growth.

By 2021, Johannesburg will have 14 opportunity centres where small businessowners and prospective entrepreneurs will receive training and funding to further combat the problem of unemployment.

These successes prove that a multiparty government has a positive impact on a city’s economy.
