Memoriam sewage crisis in Mangaung resolved after continued pressure from FF Plus

After continued pressure from the FF Plus, the Mangaung Metro Municipality (Bloemfontein, Dewetsdorp, Soutpan, Van Stadensrus and Wepener) finally made the necessary repairs to address the serious sewage leakage at the Memoriam Cemetery.

Due to a lack of oversight and maintenance, garbage bags and sewage water ended up in a stormwater channel that runs through the Cemetery. The garbage and sewage polluted water flows into a natural tributary that finally flows into the Mockes Dam, from where it is taken to be purified for human consumption.

The sewage spill next to the Cemetery was so serious that nearby graves began to sink into the ground.

On Saturday the 8th of May, the FF Plus escorted the city manager, adv Tankiso Mea, and the relevant department head to the site of the problem. Mea immediately ordered that repair work must be done.

Repairs started on Saturday afternoon and were completed on Monday morning.

The FF Plus stands up for service delivery. Stand with the FF Plus in the upcoming local government elections and fight for your rights.
