Laxity with maintenance and repairs nearly results in tragedy at Potchefstroom court

It is a shame that the court in Potchefstroom has been forced to come to a standstill because part of the building's roof collapsed due to years of poor maintenance and a lack of essential repair work.

Fortunately, no-one was injured. Meanwhile, the structure was declared unsafe.

What makes the incident even more shocking is the fact that the FF Plus brought the court's condition to the attention of the Minister of Justice, Ronald Lamola, months ago already.

The situation has since deteriorated to such an extent that the rendering of basic services and administration of justice have been interrupted for quite some time.

At least three prominent legal firms in Potchefstroom also confirmed to the FF Plus that they raised objections to the general state of decay at the court in writing to the Director-General (DG) of Justice, Adv Doctor Mashabane.

The FF Plus will follow up on the matter with the Minister and the Department, and demand answers about what steps will be taken to restore the court and essential departmental services in Potchefstroom.

South Africans deserve better than the ANC.
