The FF Plus welcomes the announcement by the Minister of Health, Joe Phaahla, that he proposed to the Covid-19 Command Council that the current regulations must be lifted, and that he had also asked the respective provincial MECs for input.
According to a written statement issued by the Minister on 20 June 2022, he is proposing that the wearing of masks in public, the restrictions on gatherings, and all travel restrictions on South Africa must be suspended.
The FF Plus repeatedly indicated to the Minister in Parliament and in the party's submission of comments on the regulations that the health regulations must be withdrawn.
The party also indicated that the public outcry and other interested parties' negative reaction against the regulations at the time clearly demonstrated that there is widespread opposition to the regulations and that the public is not happy.
The regulations are no more than a transfer of ANC power and come down to nothing but an abuse of power by government.
The FF Plus hopes that the Command Council and Cabinet will make the right decision this time around and lift the regulations.
South Africa must get back on the right track so that it can recover from the enormous damage that was done to the economy and the people's well-being through senseless restrictions and regulations over the past two years.
