The Gauteng MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA), Mzi Khumalo, and the MEC for Treasury, Jacob Mamabola, must immediately put a stop to the Emfuleni Local Municipality's planned Integrated Development Plan (IDP) workshop.
The bankrupt Emfuleni Municipality, which serves Evaton, Sebokeng, Vaal Oewer, Vanderbijlpark and Vereeniging, has scheduled the workshop for the 13th and 14th of March at the Lakefield Conference Centre next to the OR Tambo airport in Benoni. It includes overnight accommodation at the Lakefield Hotel.
These plans are just a waste of money as the Municipality can present the workshop at the Vereeniging Banquet Hall for a fraction of the cost.
The Banquet Hall can easily accommodate the 110 councillors and administrative staff for two days, and it will not be necessary to pay overnight fees.
The FF Plus's councillor in the Municipality, Gerda Senekal, sent an official letter to the municipal manager, April Ntuli, requesting justification for the expense.
The Municipality was unable to pay its employees' salaries, could not meet its bulk purchase obligations to Eskom and Rand Water, and service delivery has been drastically reduced.
This reckless plan of the Municipality serves as a shining example of how the ANC mismanages the Municipality and is milking it dry.
The ANC wants to gather and stay in luxury, while Emfuleni residents are punished with poor to no service delivery.
The FF Plus demands that the MECs must act immediately and prohibit the Municipality from presenting the workshop at the planned venue.
Emfuleni deserves better than the incompetent and greedy ANC.
