The FF Plus is of the opinion that the Free State 2018 provincial address will be nothing more than an over-the-top farewell party for Ace Magashule and that it will not be a true reflection of the ANC’s failures under his leadership.
For this reason, the FF Plus will boycott the provincial address that is scheduled to be delivered by Magashule tomorrow (27 February 2018).
Due to serious allegations of state capture in the Estina and Vrede Dairy Project, which Magashule approved as premier and that he defended since its inception, the FF Plus’s standpoint is that he should rather stay away from all Free State matters.
The provincial address simply cannot be delivered by an individual that was politically involved in, and possibly benefited from, the so-called Dairy scandal.
Magashule’s legacy as premier is not one that deserves to be celebrated. His inability to manage the province in a way that benefits its residents and the numerous allegations of irregularities in the Free State have greatly damaged the province.
This year’s address must focus on issues like unemployment, how the problem of the Dairy project will be addressed, how tax payers’ money will be used to benefit the entire province and not just the political elite, how the Free State economy will be improved by means of sustainable infrastructure development, effective municipalities and governmental departments.
Unfortunately, these issues will not be addressed.
Chances are that Magashule will exploit the opportunity to conceal his failures, just like he did with the Service Delivery Expo in December last year. That was obviously a fruitless, but expensive, exercise that was only aimed at polishing the premier’s image.
So therefore, the FF Plus considers this year’s provincial address yet another fruitless exercise that will only serve to benefit Magashule. It is widely known that Magashule will step down as premier of the Free State at the end of March due to his full-time obligations as secretary general of the ANC.
That makes a provincial address delivered by Magashule meaningless.
