The FF Plus laments the large number of violent incidents in the City of Cape Town during which numerous people were shot and killed in cold blood.
The current wave of violence started in March this year and in the most recent incident, a police officer who was guarding a prisoner in the New Somerset Hospital in Cape Town was attacked and shot dead.
Two vulnerable patients were also shot dead in their beds for no apparent reason.
The FF Plus strongly condemns these murders and offers its condolences to the victims' loved ones.
The murders and violence are indicative of a national government that has lost the fight against serious crime.
The Minister of Police's, Bheki Cele, visits to crime scenes and his attendance of funerals have no value in terms of the public's safety.
Minister Cele must prevent crime. His acting as undertaker and mourner means nothing. His constant promises and strong statements about crime prevention during funeral services are all just empty words.
The ANC government and the police service's incompetence resulting in failure to fulfil their mandate to combat crime make them accomplices.
This simultaneously serves as strong motivation to decentralise policing, leaving it in the hands of metro councils that are much closer to the affected communities.
The FF Plus will welcome any measure aimed at ensuring communities' safety and security, and an effective metro police service would be a step in the right direction.
Minister Cele's conduct demonstrates time and again that he lacks the vision, knowledge and ability to make the police service more effective and professional.
The incompetent and corrupt ANC government along with unemployment and crime is South Africa's biggest enemy.
The solution lies in a multiparty government that has the public's interests at heart. South Africa and its people deserve better than the ANC.
