The FF Plus strongly condemns the recent murder of an elderly woman (78) from Paul Roux.
The deceased was attacked, tortured, stabbed with a knife and left for dead in her home, situated in a retirement complex, during the early hours of yesterday morning.
The identity of the deceased is known, but due to the sensitive nature of the case and out of respect for the family, it is being withheld.
The knife with which the elderly woman was stabbed was discovered under her unconscious body.
She later succumbed to her wounds in hospital.
The FF Plus welcomes the fact that a suspect has since been arrested; but the fact that an elderly person was so brutally attacked and murdered in a retirement complex surrounded by other elderly people serves as proof that criminals are no longer deterred by the police or the judicial system.
This incident confirms the FF Plus's view that the current punitive measures do not serve as deterrents for criminals.
Thus, the FF Plus calls for better policing and heavier penalties.
The FF Plus will continue to put pressure on the government to address this type of crime so as to prevent any further bloodshed.
