The FF Plus is pleased with the fact that the Department of Trade and Industry conducted its investigation into irregularities relating to Tegeta Coal thoroughly and speedily.
After the issue of possible irregularities with the SABS’s grading of coal from Tegeta was first raised during a parliamentary committee’s investigation into irregularities at Eskom, the Department of Trade and Industry acted immediately and took up the matter with senior officials of the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS).
An investigation into the allegations was launched straightaway. According to a media release by the parliamentary communication services, information that has come to light thus far points to “a clear breach of established protocols” in the grading of coal from Brakfontein/Tegeta in the SABS’s laboratories in Mpumalanga.
The investigation at the SABS confirmed that the Guptas had accomplices in Eskom that made sure that their company benefited unlawfully.
If all the departments would take such decisive action, there would be reason to believe that state capture and corruption can indeed be combated successfully.
The FF Plus will keep an eye on the investigation to ensure that all the irregularities are brought to light and that the guilty parties are duly charged and that they appear before the court as soon as possible.
