ANC the masters of protest actions as seen in Cape Town today

Violent protest actions such as that at Parliament in Cape Town and at the University of the Western Cape (UWC) are the bitter fruits the ANC government is now reaping following the example that it set as a liberation movement to attain political goals through mass action and violence, Fr. Pieter Mulder, Leader of the FF Plus says.

Dr. Mulder said it is worrying that even school children were involved in today’s action and it should be investigated to determine to which extent the campaign is an orchestrated attempt to secure political gains in the run up to next year’s local government elections.

“If this is the case, the parties involved should realise they are shooting themselves and the country in the foot merely to gain short term political advantage from the disruption.

“It is a well-known fact that investors, locally and internationally are ready to invest hundreds of billions of rand, but that they have to date been put off by factors such as policy uncertainty, fraud and corruption. These mass actions are additional reasons why investors will stay away.

“South Africa’s Constitution makes it clear that one person’s claiming of his rights may not infringe on the rights of others. The opposite is clearly busy taking place, such as the events at the UWC show where students were today prevented from writing exams.

“The state cannot allow the dangerous, violent situation to get out of control and will have to actively intervene to restore discipline in the country,” Dr. Mulder said.
