The FF Plus demands urgent intervention to ensure the safety of healthcare workers in Mpumalanga, especially during the ongoing strike by members of Nehawu.
So, the FF Plus sent an official letter to the provincial Department of Health requesting it to intensify security measures for healthcare workers during the strike.
The request follows a video that went viral on social media last week, which shows Nehawu members forcibly removing a young, female doctor from her office in a Mpumalanga hospital.
According to media reports, Nehawu reportedly said that the strike – thus far characterised by intimidation and the death of several patients – will escalate today.
Although the strike is a national occurrence, each provincial department is still responsible for the safety of its healthcare workers.
The FF Plus will hold the Department accountable if another, similar incident takes place in Mpumalanga, and will see to it that the Department fulfils its constitutional duty as regards healthcare in the province.
