The minister for Social Development, Bathabile Dlamini, is guilty of being in contempt of court. She should be charged for this and should be fired immediately, Dr. Corné Mulder, the FF Plus’ parliamentary spokesperson on Social Development, says.
Dr. Mulder said during the debate on the Sassa debacle, that the actions of the ANC and the manner in which its members had disrupted the debate, is reminiscent of the Nkandla saga, and points to deep-rooted problems in the party as it once again tries to defend the indefensible.
“The minster said here today that there is no crisis at Sassa. Yet her spokesperson on legal matters said today that “sometimes when the situation gets out of control it is delayed”. The situation in the minister’s department is indeed out of control and she is apparently not aware of it.
“The minister misses the essence of the matter when she says that grants will be paid out on 1 April.
“The country’s Constitution states it clearly that the minister must be guided by the Constitution in the fulfilling of her duties. But there are ministers in government who believe their positions are merely ceremonial.
This is not so. Ministers are the political heads of departments. They are responsible for their department’s functioning. In this, minister Dlamini failed.
“The minister is in contempt of the Constitutional Court, and she has to be charged for this. The court found three years ago that the contract with CPS is illegal. She has done nothing about this.
“She was so busy with the internal politics of the ANC in her attempts to become the president of the ANC’s Woman’s League, that she failed the people of South Africa. For this she should be fired,” Dr. Mulder said.
