The greater message behind the festive season with Christmas Day and a new year full of possibilities is, particularly for Christians, one of unshakeable faith, hope and trust.
We anchor our hope in the Everlasting Rock of our faith and put all our trust in our Counsellor, in good and bad times.
This is also the time of year when we look back and reflect on the past year. People often try to determine how they did by asking whether it was good or bad.
What they should be asking, instead, is whether they did their utmost best.
In this regard, the FF Plus believes that its participation in the Government of National Unity (GNU) has played a significant role in bringing about a new wave of optimism where there was only despair.
People are quick to forget where South Africa had found itself before the elections; the future seemed bleak and would have remained hopeless without this opportunity to form a unity government in which many more people’s dreams and ideals are represented and protected than before.
The FF Plus is convinced that participating in this government is the best way to promote its policy and ideals so as to effectively serve its voters, and offer them hope for a better 2025 and future.
On a more personal note, this past year was one of great loss and sadness for the FF Plus with the passing of many colleagues who had a profound impact on the party, such as Marcelle Maritz who served as the provincial leader of Limpopo for many years.
Her energy, zeal for work and drive to use the FF Plus as a means to improve people’s lives – both in and outside of the party – will be missed for a long time to come.
After three decades under ANC majority rule where unemployment and poverty reached unprecedented levels, the most pressing questions for each and every South African remain: What does the future hold? And are we safe?
The answer is that the GNU has indeed brought hope for a better future.
There are certainly many challenges on this new journey, as was recently evident with the BELA issue. Still, the FF Plus believes that a better future can be created for everyone in the country through mutual respect and cooperation.
Everyone deserves a place in this country, and everyone’s language, religion and traditions also have a place.
All we can do amid all the earthly uncertainties and challenges is take our worries and questions to our Heavenly Father in prayer and humility; because blessed is the one who hopes in the Lord, says the Word.
This is the FF Plus’s conviction too.
The party wants to thank every loyal supporter who has continued to proudly support the FF Plus. They are the ones who understand that people have different values and needs, and what the political struggle in South Africa is all about. Their support keeps us strong.
Enjoy the holidays with your family and friends; and may you experience and embrace the true message of Christmas. Be safe, and tackle the challenges of the new year with renewed hope and vigour.
