Carol-Ann Benn, w&#xEA;reldbekende borskanker-sjirurg by die Helen Joseph-hospitaal in Johannesburg, is &#8216;n groot terugslag vir gesondheidsorg in di&#xE9; openbare hospitaal.<\/p>\n<p>Prof. Benn, die stigter van die borskliniek by die hospitaal, het bedank weens die swak omstandighede waaronder mediese personeel moet werk en die kleinlike patriargale bestuurstrukture wat dit ontmoontlik gemaak het vir haar om voort te gaan met haar lewensreddende werk.<\/p>\n<p>Prof. Benn se bedanking het ook veroorsaak dat &#8216;n groot aantal vrywilligers van die nie-winsgewende Borsgesondheidstigting die eenheid verlaat het.<\/p>\n<p>Prof. Benn was vir 17 jaar werksaam by die hospitaal se borskliniek.<\/p>\n<p>Volgens die VF Plus het prof. Benn onskatbare goeie werk gedoen by die Helen Joseph-hospitaal, veral vir pasi&#xEB;nte wat nie privaat mediese sorg kan bekostig nie.<\/p>\n<p>Daar moet dringende aandag gegee word aan die werksomstandighede, asook die bestuurstrukture van openbare hospitale in Gauteng.<\/p>\n<p>Borskanker is een van die mees algemene kankers waarmee Suid-Afrikaanse vroue gediagnoseer word.<\/p>\n<p>Een uit 13 wit vroue word met borskanker gediagnoseer, terwyl een uit 81 swart en bruin vroue met die siekte gediagnoseer word.<\/p>\n<p>Die VF Plus doen &#8216;n beroep op vroue om vir &#8216;n jaarlikse mammogram te gaan om borskanker betyds op te spoor en voorkomend op te tree.<\/p>\n<p>Veral vroue ouer as 40 is vatbaar vir borskanker.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Die bedanking van prof.
