Vissterftes in die Vaalrivier dien as bewys van die erge besoedeling wat dié waterstelsel se totale ekosisteem nou bedreig terwyl ‘n oënskynlik ongeërgde regering ontken dat daar ‘n wesenlike lewensbedreigende probleem vir mens en dier bestaan wat van dié water afhanklik is.<\/p>\n

Alhoewel die besoedeling van die stelsel goed gedokumenteer is, probeer die nasionale departement van water en sanitasie die probleem nogtans verdoesel deur te beweer die vissterftes is die gevolg van ‘n daling in temperatuur en ‘n tekort aan suurstof in die water.<\/p>\n

"Die VF Plus sal ‘n mosie in die parlement ter tafel lê in ‘n poging om die privatisering van rioolaanlegte te bewerkstellig"<\/strong><\/em><\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

Die waarheid is dat die besoedeling van die Vaalrivier en ander waterbronne in die land deel is van die onbevoegdheid, wanbestuur en korrupsie wat munisipaliteite landwyd in duie laat stort.<\/p>\n

Die enigste oplossing vir Suid-Afrika se rioolkrisis is die privatisering van rioolaanlegte. Die VF Plus eis dat rioolaanlegte aan kundige en bevoegde maatskappye oorgedra word sodat dit gereguleerd en volgens gesonde besigheidsbeginsels bestuur kan word.<\/p>\n

Enige vorm van ingryping, soos die by die Sebokeng-skema, is nutteloos aangesien die ANC-regering nie in staat is om munisipaliteite doeltreffend te bestuur nie.  Die chaos wat tans in plaaslike regering heers het veel groter afmetings aangeneem as ‘n blote chroniese gebrek aan dienslewering.<\/p>\n

Die VF Plus neem kennis van die onderneming van minister van water en sanitasie, Gugile Nkwinti, om president Cyril Ramaphosa te nader om die Sebokeng Streeksrioolskema (SRSS) tot nasionale sleutelpunt te laat verklaar.<\/p>\n

Met hierdie stap beoog die minister om veiligheidsmaatreëls by die SRSS te laat opskerp ten einde verbeterde funksionering te bewerkstellig. <\/p>\n

Om dié skema ‘n nasionale sleutelpunt te maak, gaan egter nie die tekort aan kundigheid en bevoegdheid om die rioolaanleg te bestuur, oplos nie.<\/p>\n

Munisipaliteite geleë aan die land se belangrikste waterbronne veroorsaak die grootste besoedeling van riviere en waterbronne. Voorbeelde hiervan is die rioolaanlegte en nywerhede in Emfuleni (Vereeniging), Ngwathe (Parys), Mafube (Frankfort) en Moqhaka (Kroonstad).<\/p>\n

Die storting van riool in belangrike waterbronne soos die Vaalrivier, die Valsrivier en die Wilgerivier is uiters onverantwoordelik en is niks anders nie as sabotasie van een van die land se heel belangrikste hulpbronne.<\/p>\n

Die ANC-beheerde munisipaliteite beskik duidelik nie oor die vermoë of wil om die probleem aan te spreek nie.<\/p>\n

Verskonings van gebreekte pompe, stukkende en verouderde infrastruktuur en ‘n gebrek aan finansiële en ander hulpbronne word gereeld voorgehou, terwyl munisipaliteite hulself dikwels skuldig maak aan die onderbesteding van voorwaardelike infrastruktuurtoekennings.<\/p>\n

Die VF Plus het reeds verskeie klagte oor die besoedeling van die Wilgerivier by Frankfort by die Mafube-plaaslike munisipaliteit ingedien.<\/p>\n

Die minister van samewerkende regering, Zweli Mkhize, is ook versoek om dringend by munisipaliteite soos Emfuleni, Ngwathe, Moqhaka en ander wat hulself aan soortgelyke wanpraktyke skuldig maak, in te gryp.<\/p>\n
