"Die skrikwekkende omvang en uitwerking van die langdurige droogte in Suid-Afrika word duidelik geïllustreer deur die feit dat die land se melkboere afgeneem het van 3 561 in Januarie 2009 tot die huidige 1 228. Dit wys dat meer as 2 300 melkboere hoofsaaklik weens die droogte handdoek moes ingooi," sê Fanie du Toit, VF Plus-LP en lid van die NRP. <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

"Wat landbou in die algemeen aanbetref, het sowat 30 000 werksgeleenthede verlore gegaan sedert Januarie verlede jaar."<\/strong><\/em><\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

"Luidens mediaberigte word meer as 37% van alle mense in landelike gebiede ernstig geraak deur die droogte terwyl die land se omvangryke wild- en jagbedryf, wat groot getalle buitelanders lok, met sowat 80% moes terugsny op hul wild.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

"Terwyl hierdie syfers geen twyfel laat nie dat die land se boere veg om oorlewing en om steeds voedselsekerheid aan Suid-Afrika te bied, is die regering traag om hulle in hierdie groot krisisuur te help.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

"Die regering se raad aan boere is om versekering teen droogteverliese uit te neem. Dit is skokkend."<\/strong><\/em><\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

"Die regering moet wakker skrik voor dit te laat is. Die krisis gaan nie oornag verdwyn nie. Die VF Plus vra daarom dat die regering ook deur die nasionale raad van provinsies die krisis bespreek en dringend na antwoorde soek om boere en hul werknemers van ondergang te red," sê du Toit.<\/p>\n
