The Freedom Front Plus’ request to the Public Protector in July 2012 to investigate the tender procedure of the Mpumalanga provincial government for the shop premises in Pilgrim’s Rest has paid off. “As was expected, the tender procedure was poisoned by gross irregularities and maladministration, of which some elements constitute fraud. The FF Plus is delighted that the report has uncovered the truth. In particular, the order that all new contracts must be cancelled is of great importance. This is an early Christmas gift for the current shop-owners,” Adv. Anton Alberts, the parliamentary spokesperson on Economic Affairs for the FF Plus said. “We will study the report thoroughly and then consider whether we will be laying criminal complaints against the offenders.”

“I furthermore spoke to the lawyer, Pieter Steenkamp, who had obtained an interdict on behalf of the current shop-owners to prevent the implementation of the new lease contracts from taking effect. He was delighted about the PP’s report as he now only has to bring an application for a court order that would enforce the findings of the PP’s report. The court order will therefore save the current shop-owners a lot of expenses in legal fees and this is a Christmas present of justice for the unfair treatment which they had received,” Adv. Alberts added.

The FF Plus, as part of its mandate as an opposition party, will continue uncovering maladministration and corruption by the ANC.
