Parliament does not belong to the ANC

South Africa’s parliament can never belong to the governing party as the ANC apparently believes. It belongs to the people of South Africa, Dr. Corné Mulder, chief whip of the FF Plus says.

Dr. Mulder said during the budget debate of parliament that the Constitution of South Africa has various provisions as introduction which mainly have one objective and that is to ensure accountability through honesty and openness.

He said the truth is however that parliament does not succeed in this and that the previous ad hoc committee on Nkandla is a good example of how accountability failed.

“The outcome will be the same with the next committee as nobody wants to accept responsibility. Leaders are asked to investigate themselves. Nobody can take such a parliament seriously.

“In this dismantling of parliament loyal cadres who protect the president, plays a big role. He doesn’t even have to do it himself. Nobody acts according to what is right or wrong, but only according to instructions from Luthuli House,” Dr. Mulder says.
