Irresponsible political comments create the climate for violence and friction in South Africa and the xenophobic violence in KwaZulu-Natal can be related directly to the comments of the Zulu king that foreigners are not welcome in this country,” Dr. Corné Mulder, the chief whip of the Freedom Front Plus says.
According to Dr. Mulder, the comments of president Jacob Zuma about Jan van Riebeeck had caused as much damage even though the president is trying to deny it with word games. Such comments should be seen in context with the events that transpire afterwards.
Dr. Mulder said that the FF Plus strongly condemns xenophobic violence and there is no place in South Africa for this kind of actions.
“There is an evil attitude at present in South Africa. Values such as respect, integrity, honesty and discipline hardly exist any more. Greed, disrespect, corruption and lawlessness have taken its place.
“There is no place for radicalism in South Africa and there are enough moderate people in this country who realise how serious this problem is. Let us all take hands and move forward,” Dr. Mulder said.
